Chara falling in 201X doesn't make sense. So Chara fell in 201X, it's pretty much confirmed canon, through Chara's narrating red text, but that just doesn't feel right to me. The monsters were sealed underground by humans' wizards wielding magic, swords and spears. They face someone who is presumably the monster king, and he looks suspiciously.

The intro, which states 201X, is actually Chara falling down, not Frisk. This is confirmed by Asgore's house on the Genocide route, examining the calendar, which on other routes states it's "A calendar from 201X, a data is circled," instead states "The day I fell is circled," and by that stage Chara is totally in control.
