Brescia's history as the birthplace of the Mille Miglia thousand-mile race begins surprisingly with an entirely different race. The Coppa Florio was one of the very first automobile races in Europe. It was first to run in the year 1900 and was Brescia's first brush with automotive lore. That race was last held in 1929.
