The utility snowmobile is a heavy-duty sled specifically designed for work purposes. Utility snowmobiles feature a solid and durable chassis and suspensions, racks or other cargo solutions, and many work-related accessories. They are powered by a 550-850cc 2-stroke or a 600-1050cc 4-stroke engine, which propels an extra-wide, 20-inch track.

The engine was a completely new design and became a prototype for the entire snowmobile industry. The engine is an axial fan-cooled design with the fan mounted at cylinder level and driven by a V-belt from the flywheel. A fan cooled machine can be just fine at warm temps unless you push it to its limits. The FC engine does not put out as much horsepower as a L/C so trying to make it do the same thing as an L/C is bound to cause it to have problems. This is no different than expecting a 400 L/C to do everything a 700 L/C can do though.
