9 reviews of Thompson's Park "This is a really lovely little inner city park. It has quite a quaint atmosphere and is a really delightful place to take a book and while away a few hours. Its on two levels - the upper level is a considerably sized field, great for kids to play games and sports on whilst the lower level has some really mature flowers and trees and a lovely little stream feeding.

Members of the Thompson family were responsible for gifts of two drinking fountains in Cardiff's parks, Sir David's Field (later Thompson's Park) and Llandaff Fields. The family had a long association with Llandaff, beginning with Charles Thompson (1815-1889), who made his home at Preswylfa in Llandaff in 1857 and established the family firm.

They mark historic land boundaries and relate to the 1912 land transfer from Charles Thompson to the Cardiff City Council. Originally there were stones numbered from 1 to 17 and these can be seen on copies of Parks Department plans held in the Local Studies section of the Cardiff Central Library. There are plans dated 1911, 1912 and 1933.

It's on bus routes so you can get there quite easily and it's fairly close to Chapter Arts Centre and Llanover Hall Arts Centre. It's a good place to go for a walk, sit and read, have a picnic or play games.
