Sections of the brick wall sea defences near Langstone Millpond are showing signs of compromise. A path (footpath 108/56/2) runs alongside the millpond and it remains open and accessible to the public. However the condition of the sea wall has led to local concerns for the future of the footpath and the pond itself.

At the end of a lovely walk from Emsworth you pass Langstone Mill Pond. It is home to a colony of little egrets, cattle egrets and a heronry. The varied birdlife can be observed from the Solent Way, a public footpath that passes by the pond. Just before you reach the pond you get splendid views of Chichester Harbour leading to Hayling Island.
