In 2023 was carnaval volgens de gemeente ook te luidruchtig. De horeca en de carnavalskarren worden in 2024 strenger gecontroleerd op teveel lawaai.. Sinds carnaval 2017 wordt in Maastricht tijdens carnaval bier geschonken in plastic beker, niet meer in glas. Dat was destijds een omstreden maatregel. Nu wil de gemeente ook een inzamelsysteem.

Carnaval begint officieel op carnavalszondag maar de meeste evenementen in Maastricht beginnen dit jaar op zaterdag 18 februari 2023 en duren tot en met dinsdag 21 februari 2023. Vanaf de woensdag na Vasteloavend begint namelijk het 'vasten' (tot aan Pasen ). Daar komt ook de term 'Vastelaovend' (vasten-avond) ook vandaan. Lees straks ook:
